ProctorU Named 4th Fastest Growing Education Company in the U.S. by Inc. Magazine

Birmingham, AL – ProctorU, an online test proctoring company that was founded in Hoover in 2008, has been named to the 2014 Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing private companies in America. The company, which moved its headquarters to Livermore, Calif., but still maintains a strong and growing part of its operation in Hoover, came in at No. 183 on the 2014 Inc. 500 list and No. 4 among education companies.

The company now has more than 400 employees in four locations, said ProctorU media coordinator Franklin Hayes. “Making the list is a validation of the efforts of all the staff who have helped us get here,” ProctorU President Don Kassner said in a written statement. “It is a nice ‘pat on the back’ for the 400-plus employees of ProctorU who come to work every day.

The company’s Hoover office is in the Riverchase Center office complex off Riverchase Parkway East and employs 124 people right now, Hayes said. However, the Hoover office is getting ready to move from its 4,000-square-foot space to a 20,000-square-foot space in the same office complex in September, he said. The Hoover office is expanding from 50 proctoring stations to 150, and each station is designed to handle two employees on different shifts, Hayes said. Many more test proctors will be hired for the Hoover office after the move, he said.

ProctorU’s sales and marketing team also is based in the Hoover office. The company’s Livermore, Calif., office also recently moved from a 3,200-square-foot space to one with 10,000 square feet. A third office opened in Folsom, Calif., in the spring of 2013, and a fourth office opened in Gilbert, Ariz., early this summer, Hayes said.

ProctorU employees monitor students as they take exams online, using computers, webcams, high-speed Internet connections and software that helps protect the integrity of the test-taking process. The service allows distance learners to take any test, anywhere via computer. Since 2008, the company has administered nearly 1 million exams for test-takers in 75 countries for more than 500 higher education institutions and certification organizations, according to a company news release.

The 2014 Inc. 500 list came out in Inc. magazine’s September issue, which hit newsstands Wednesday. To make this year’s top 500 list, companies had to achieve at least 918 percent sales growth over the past three years. ProctorU’s revenues grew by 2,312 percent over that time, the magazine said.
