The University of Kansas Hospital Selects for Cloud-based Medical Image Exchange For Trauma Transfers and Referrals

Atlanta, GA –, Accelarad’s new online medical image cloud computing service, today announced that The University of Kansas Hospital, the state’s leading major research institution, will use the platform for medical image exchange when performing trauma transfers and tertiary care referrals.
Through the cloud, hard-to-reach rural and remote referring facilities throughout the state can now upload and share medical images with The University of Kansas Hospital-affiliated sites, and allow The University of Kansas Hospital clinicians to instantly review studies via the Web or mobile devices.  By using the cloud to triage patient care, clinicians can virtually evaluate patient referrals toThe University of Kansas Hospital’s Level One Trauma Center or for local treatment, a process that improves care and patient safety by reducing risky long-distance transfers. Medical image exchange via cloud computing saves health care dollars by eliminating duplicate exams and solving the problems with incompatible or lost CDs and film.  This also reduces unnecessary radiation exposure for patients.
“By using the Web to exchange medical images at the point of care, we are breaking down tough barriers in health information exchange (HIE)” said Accelarad CEO Willie Tillery. “Giving The University of Kansas Hospital tools to evaluate the appropriateness of a transfer from referring facilities in rural or remote locations before a transfer is made, will maximize the quality of care, minimize costs, and enhance technology efficiencies.”
About, an Accelarad venture, is an online community for medical image exchange that is revolutionizing how imaging facilities, physicians, and patients store, share, and access medical images and reports.  Via a cloud computing platform, allows for easy collaboration and communication among health care providers and patients, dramatically improving access, costs, speed, and mobility of medical image exchange throughout the continuum of care. By fully complying with HIPAA privacy and security rules, safeguards total patient confidentiality.
